(More customer reviews)If you are looking for a larger survival knife with a classic shape, this is not a terrible choice.It has good mass, making it a good choice for chopping but maybe not what you're looking for if you're keeping things light.I found it had decent balance and kept it's tip (a good, strong blade) throwing it on numerous occasions just to get it's feel.It will stand up to firm batonning through moderate size wood - don't sharpen the false edge if that will be your purpose.It has kept a great edge owing to its high carbon steel and shows no evidence of corrosion despite some abuse (not that I left it out in the rain for weeks or anything like that).It should be kept lightly oiled as it isn't stainless, but its black coating does a pretty decent job of protecting the blade and doesn't rub off too easily.As I mentioned before, it has a forward balance so as to facilitate chopping and will take down small trees with a little work but rather easily if necessary if an axe is not handy.Edge touch-ups in the field are not difficult,but remember this is not a small blade.Somewhat beastly, but well designed for it's purpose.The handle is rubbery but firm and gives a satisfying grip for my hand, which is on the medium side of things.The only minus is a lack of a metal butt-cap for hammering, hence four stars (I'd give 4 1/2, but this is not possible).In the end, I would trust this blade in the bush in a survival situation.
